SOLUTIONS
WE WOULD LIKE TO OFFER SOME SOLUTIONS TO THE ISSUES ADDRESSED.
Solutions based on personal experience.
The same issues are prevalent in all the Gastroparesis Groups globally.
Professional bias and labelling patients with a multitude of mental health issues seems to be disproportionately the treatment Gastroparesis and other Chronic illness patients receive. The complexities of the illnesses and the comorbidities as it progresses is of course challenging but shouldn't prevent.
LISTEN TO THE PATIENT
Mission
-
The model where the patient is at the centre of their care.
-
At induction of any new staff to the hospital place emphasis on the importance of a Holistic approach to the patients healthcare.
-
The symptoms they are experiencing are valid.
-
Be open to patients inclusion of alternatives therapies alongside allopathic medicine.
-
Install the understanding that spending time with the patient at initial engagement will actually save time in admissions.
-
Not to dismiss patients knowledge of their illness. particularly chronic patients who have been living with it for a long time.
Vision
-
Introduce Health Passports for Chronically ill patients.
-
The size of patient records when they are frequent flyers is overwhelming. Most telling is that important information is embedded deep and clinicians don't often have the time to go through them.
-
The passport would enable faster processing through Emergency admissions, clearer instructions for ward staff , ability to be admitted in a different region and be treated appropriately. Liasing between private and public healthcare more cohesive.
-
So many advantages for both patients and health professionals alike
